South Peninsula India Monthly Rainfall in mm (Actual)
Source: statSCALAR
Key Takeaway
- Actual monthly rainfall across the South Peninsula helps monitor precipitation conditions affecting crops such as rice, maize, pulses, cotton, coffee, and plantation crops. The region receives rainfall from both the southwest and northeast monsoons, making monthly distribution important for agricultural planning. Rainfall observations help assess water availability, reservoir replenishment, irrigation requirements, and the potential effects of dry spells or heavy precipitation on crop growth and agricultural production.
About This Dataset
Monthly actual rainfall recorded across the South Peninsula region, measured in millimetres. It captures regional rainfall patterns and seasonal changes, including the influence of the southwest and northeast monsoons.
South Peninsula India, covering Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, is where the southwest monsoon first arrives, usually in early June. Unlike other regions it also receives significant rain from the northeast monsoon between October and December, which is especially important for Tamil Nadu. The series supports analysis of plantation crops, spices, rice and reservoir storage in the south.
Yearly total values are given for Jan to Dec of each year.
